Advice to El Taj Halal management. Please decide if you are a fast food outlet or a fancy restaurant. If you decide a restaurant then improve your toilet and your service to match your prices.

Finally the toilets - seriously weird setup. They have a single ladies and single gents toilet. Each has a lock on the outer door, with a wash basin in the room and the actual toilet with inner door without a lock. The bolt lock on the outer door is incredibly difficult to close, so you just have to leave it open and hope no-one walks in whilst you are on the loo. Sadly, hoping does always work, because I heard a female customer complain to her husband that a bloke walked in to the ladies toilet - because someone had managed to lock the mens toilet door and this guy could not wait. That's the other thing - if someone does manage to lock the outer door and you want to wash you hands before you eat - you are just going to have to wait. Like I did on one occasion for nearly 10 minutes! Oh, and the lights in the toilets are on a sensor - but the sensor is not in the inner toilet cubicle - so you can be on the loo and the lights go out!!

Mixed experience - i ate here on three separate days...Cosy atmosphere, interesting decorations - but it cant decide if its a fast food outlet or a restaurant. Some of the fast food / snack type options e.g. burgers, shwarma, falafel were tasty and are reasonably priced for a tourist area. But if you order stuff from the main menu, the prices are unreasonably high and not matching the quality of the food. e.g. the chicken biryani is just rice mixed with an incredibly peppery chicken curry sauce. I asked if we could have some extra white rice to dilute the impact but was told I would need to buy a Rice with vegetables for 9EUR. I said I did not want vegetables - just a bit of plain rice. To which the response was, 'there is not much vegetable in vegetable rice dish'!!. So 9EUR for a bit of white rice with some white rice with minimal vegetables mixed in - from a slightly fancy fast food outlet! On my final visit, I ordered Kebabs with a bit of salad for 12EUR (or 13EUR?). For this I got 4 of the hardest, driest seekh kebabs I have ever had in my life. My initial response was to ask the waitress if these were freshly made or reheated? All fresh I was assured. I was starving after 5hrs at the Alhambra and had already waited nearly 20-25mins for the kebabs so decided to just get on with it. I had to really chew and swallow with a mouthful of drink just to get each mouthful down my throat. My wife tried the Harira soup which was tasty but an incredibly small portion for the 5EUR (or 6EUR?) that they charged.
